electrical therapy

Electrical therapy (TENS or IFC) is the passing of current through an area of injury to stimulate the sensory nerves.

Electrodes are attached to the patients’ skin causing a tingling, vibrating or buzzing sensation which reduces the feelings of pain (electrical therapy may block the transmission of pain signals along the nerves to the brain and stimulate the body to secrete endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers).

Electrical therapy is most often used by chiropractors and physiotherapists as a pain relief option, while receiving chiropractic treatment or to allow participation in a prescribed exercise plan.

It is mostly utilized for recent or acute injuries such as neck and back pain and tendonitis or bursitis, but can also be used for pain relief from chronic conditions.
